one of my new year’s resolutions will be to get my photo/video storage system together. the creative & fun parts of owning a photo business come a lot easier to me. unfortunately the boring business-y side does not. so for 2014 i’m cracking down! i’ve heard too many horror stories about photos being lost due to hard drive crashes, power outtages, etc. that scares me soooo bad. to be honest, i have thousands of images dating back to my early high school years (2007!) still floating in weird folders on my mac, in random drives, cds, etc. my computer is maxed out and i can’t wait to get it (and my brain) organized. i’m getting a jump start on the process now and so far it’s been fun discovering images i had forgotten all about. some of these photos are so important to me and it’s crazy how easy it is to forget about them.
before i got the digital camera i wanted, i shot only film. once i expressed an interest, people just kept giving me film cameras to play with. it was awesome and i miss it! here are a few found favorites.
as an aspiring photographer growing up in a small east texas town, i photographed a lot of horses on the side of the road. horses, flowers, old cars and my friends.
my friend from high school, jamarcus aka “j gutta”, an aspiring rapper.
my first jobs in high school were babysitting for different families. i learned of my love for kids photography when i photographed these twins, marco and isabella and their little brother max.
throughout our first years of dating, canaan and i could only see each other one day a week. it was usually a saturday or sunday when he would mow the lawn at his grandparents house. they live in the same town i grew up in and a few doors down from my best friend’s house so it worked out perfectly. most of the time i had to wait around for him to finish working before we could hang out but i didn’t mind. i love this picture so much. i don’t even remember taking it.
nana. pensicola beach, florida.
my first band photos. colton (far left) now lives in china and teaches music. david (left middle) is our roommate. cody (right middle) lives in colorado with his wife
(my best friend) and daughter everly
…and of course that’s canaan my love on the far right. such a good group of dudes. i’ll always love this photo. i’m ordering a big print of it now!
cayla, my partner in crime from 8th grade, high school and still one of my best friends today. i snapped this while we were visiting her big sister in san marcos.
blurry but i dig it.
these last 2 are from my very first roll of film. ever. i don’t think i’ll ever top that one. click here
to see more from that roll.
well that’s all for now. i seriously have to get some work done today although i’d rather be sifting through all of these old photos. there are a ton! one day i’m going to get all of these onto flickr or something. it’s definitely inspired me to pick up shooting film again. hope you all had a great holiday! xo
